John 4:35-38 says, “Wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest… You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”
You Have the Life Raft
If you’re a believer, you’re called to share. We have the life raft, and people around us are drowning. Throw it to them—even if you don’t think they’re interested. I can tell you I didn’t seem interested until the day I was saved, and I’m thankful for people who continued to throw me the raft.
The Professor and His Praying Mother
On a plane to Africa, I met a Penn State professor who studies evolution. As we talked, the conversation turned to his mom—a strong Christian woman who prayed and fasted daily. She had passed away.
I said, “I’ve been praying for illustrations, and I’m finding out that I’m your mom’s co-laborer. Even though your mom is gone, you can see her again. The beauty of the Christian story is that it’s a choice.”
He teared up and said his identity had always been in science.
I told him: “God sent an uneducated reporter from Springfield, Missouri, to fly halfway across the world to remind you that everything your mom taught you is absolutely true. God still has a plan for your life.”
Who Have You Given Up On?
God Himself is sending co-laborers along that person’s path—your lost spouse, your wayward child, your unsaved friend. God loves them and cares about their salvation even more than you do.
My Niece at Chipotle
My niece Chloe went into foster care, lived with us for a year, then got sent back to Oklahoma. I thought I’d lost all influence in her life. She went to a secular university and was living the party life.
I prayed: “God, send co-laborers.”
At the end of the semester, an 18-year-old girl named Kim—someone I’ve never met—randomly asked my niece to lunch at Chipotle. Kim paid for it and said, “What if you gave your heart to Jesus?”
Chloe started crying and said, “My aunt in Springfield told me about Him.”
Even though I thought I’d lost my voice, God sent a co-laborer. Chloe is now serving God with all her heart.
Own Your Zone
God has given every single one of us a zone. He’s planted you exactly where you are at this time in history. You have nothing to lose because you know how this whole thing ends.
Who are you running alongside? What gray-haired granny has been praying for someone in your cubicle?
Always Evangelism Season
2 Timothy 4:2 says: “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season.”
It is always evangelism season. Your life is a witness, but it’s not enough to just be kind. You must vocally tell them that the love of Jesus Christ has forever transformed your life. Otherwise, they might just think you’re a nice person.
The field is already ripe for harvest. There’s an urgency.
No matter who it is, no matter how far gone they are, God has a plan for them. It’s not us who changes hearts—it’s only Him. But He hears our prayers and moves in response to them.
