From the Newsroom to the Good News: Sara’s Story

God’s plans are always better than ours

The Call from News to the Gospel

For 17 years, Sara Forhetz delivered the bad news in television journalism as a crime and courts reporter, until God called her to deliver the Good News. An Emmy-winning journalist covering crime and headlines, she thought she had her life mapped out. But behind the camera, God was writing a different story.

At 25, Sara was a self-described rebel without a cause, until she started attending church with her now-husband Ethan. There, she realized something was missing: “I was trying to do life my own way, never realizing that God’s plans were so much better. I entered into relationship with Jesus and surrendered to His way— His Lordship.”

“If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed!” (John 8:36) —and Sara took hold.

With a microphone already in hand, God repurposed her voice, not for ratings, but for His Kingdom. She dove deep into Scripture, reading, studying, and growing in her faith. Seven years later, she received her first invitation to speak at a church. Sara now shares the Gospel at over 70 events a year, inspiring others to live their faith out loud. Sara’s background in journalism gave her a platform, but her heart for Jesus gave her a purpose.

Living Out the Mission as a Family
A family united in purpose

Living Out the Mission as a Family

Sara’s ministry is not a solo journey, it’s a family calling. Together with her husband, Ethan, who is also a well recognized journalist and media personality, she raises their three children in Springfield, Missouri. Homeschooling, traveling, and serving, the Forhetz family has embraced a life where faith is more than Sunday, it’s everyday.

And yes, sometimes ministry comes with laughter. From viral family videos to unexpected adventures, Sara reminds us that following Jesus isn’t only about reverence, it’s also filled with joy and the grace to embrace the messy moments.

Speaking, Media, and Ministry

Today, Sara’s voice reaches thousands through:

Statement of Faith

I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God, the same yesterday, today, and forevermore! The Bible is my all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. It is the inspired Word of God, life to my body and my soul.

I believe in the authority and sufficiency of Scripture. I am as concerned about subtracting from it as I am adding to it. My heart is to do neither. I believe in the Trinity, and I believe the work of the Holy Spirit in my life—both in me and on me—has transformed everything. My reason for speaking is this: that “whosoever” hears His voice through me will come to the Father while there is still day.

When Sara isn’t speaking or recording, you’ll likely find her:

  • Outdoors—biking, hiking, or training for her next triathlon.
  • Sipping coffee with friends, deep in conversation about Jesus.
  • Homeschooling her kids and traveling the world with them.
